textual analysis "mean girls"

Camera -
when Lindsay Lohan is saying goodbye to her parents on her first day of school, the camera shot that is used is; a two shot, high angle and a close up. They are also taking pictures of her so a freezing shit is used whilst this is happening.
-Throughout the rest of the opening sequence shots such as;
-medium close up
-close up
-long shot
-over the shoulder
-pan held
-tracking

Sound
At the beginning when Lindsay Lohan's parents are saying goodbye, non diegetic sound is being used, as Lindsay was talking as the narrator.
when they were at the school there is a lot of non diegetic sound, such as music playing in the background, students talking in the background and the school bell ringing.

Mise en scene
The Mise en Scene throughout this opening sequence is mainly of the school and Lindsay's home, the things that are included in theses shots are;
-Modern day clothing
-Class rooms / desks / boards etc
-School playing field
-Natural lighting is used throughout the opening sequence

Representation
The opening sequence to Mean girls represents teenage life, school life. and the importance and difficulty to settling in somewhere. The different type of social groups is also shown very quickly into this opening sequence. Stereotypes are represented in this film very clearly, there are the "Plastics, Nerds, Asians, Fat people" it comes across very clearly as they have used, costumes, personality, the actor, script and mise en scene.

Editing
There did not seem to be a lot of editing in the opening sequence, however there was a bit of freezing shots, when pictures where being taken. When going from shot to shot a straight cut was used.

lesson one creating production company

MONDAY, 5 JANUARY 2009

Today we had our first production meeting we all discussed our strengths, timetable and we discussed what we would prefer to do, we came up with the following:

Director/actor- Conor
Producer-Sophie
Camera- Tasha
Sound-Catherine
Editing- Everyone

However we may make some slight adjustments, when our idea if finalized.

-Thought of names for the production company

-Researching genres of the films e.g. Horror, romance, Action, comedy, thriller and are own ideas for our 2 minute opening sequence

We thought of resources that we have access to to give us a better idea as to what and where we could film, we came up with the following:

-College
-Houses
-Car
-Park
-Car-park
-Prop's in college (Prop cupboard)
-Costumes

we used this video because t is a lot like the genre and film type we have chosen for our 2 minute opening sequence.
